LLB pays for pet adoptions on National Pet Day!

Islip, NY – Islip Animal Shelter and Adopt-a-Pet Center recently celebrated National Pet Day on Monday, April 11th, by offering free pet adoptions. The shelter’s non-profit volunteer group, Live.Love.Bark, offered to pay any adoption fee as long as the application was filed on April 11th. Throughout the day, over 50 people came through the shelter looking to adopt a pet. Fourteen adoption applications were filed. Four of those applications have been approved already and the rest are currently pending and being reviewed for approval.

“This promotion gives people the added incentive they may need to come down and adopt a new best friend,” said Islip Town Councilwoman Trish Bergin Weichbrodt. “The goal is always to get as many dogs, cats, and other little animals into their forever homes. Promotions like these help us get people in the doors and then we’re able to review the applicants and make life-long matches for these animals.”

If you’re interested in adopting an animal, but missed out on this great promo, remember you can still adopt any long-timer (any animal who has been waiting for a forever home at the shelter for 6 months or longer) for free, any day of the week. Live.Love.Bark also pays the adoption fees for any long-timer, dog or cat, and if the pet has been waiting over a year, they also throw in a free bed, bag of food, toys, treats, collar and leash.

To see the animals available for adoption, check out the shelter’s Facebook page at or visit them in person at 210 South Denver Ave., in Bay Shore. Visit the Facebook page to see adoption photos too.

Teaching kids the importance of adopting!

We were happy to visit the children at Paul J Bellew Elementary School in West Islip with adoptable dog Shadow to talk to the kids about the importance of adopting and of responsible pet ownership. Also speaking was Chris from Lost & Found Pets of Long Island - Community about the importance of keeping a collar with ID on your pets and microchipping your pet. Some of the lucky kids even got to meet Shadow in person and give him some pats on the head.

Shadow is a handsome mixed breed who is under 2 years old. He is good with all humans, cats and some dogs. If interested in adopting this handsome boy, shoot us a message or email us at [email protected]

One of our favorite girls got adopted today - SANDY!!! Sandy waited over 2 years for her home. We were more than happy to pay for Sandy's adoption fee, and include a bed, food, bones, kong toy, and a collar and leash. And she couldn't be more happy to go HOME!

Pandora spent over a year at the shelter recovering from the traumatic experience of being abused and thrown from a moving car. It took a lot of love and patience, but this girl has made leaps and bounds of progress. She found someone who will continue to be patient with her and continue her socialization, but in a loving, warm and comfy home setting!

We were more than happy to pay for Pandora's adoption fee, and provide her with a new bed, blanket, large bag of food, box of bones, a harness, collar and leash. We couldn't be happier for this girl!

LLB makes a match! or two!

Live.Love.Bark was happy to play matchmaker this weekend, rehoming two adorable dogs in need.

The two families reached out to us last week and we just happen to know the perfect home for each dog! Buster (Beagle/Hound mix) is now living the good life with our volunteer George and his Beagle Avery. Anna (Black Lab mix) is now living indoors and being spoiled by the same family who rescued our former foster dog Ruby! (Anna is pictured with Ruby's bff Scruff.)

Gotta love those happy tails!

Islip Animal Shelter's Pet Toy Drive Raises Outstanding Amount of Donations for Homeless Pets

December 14, 2015 - Bay Shore, NY – The Islip Animal Shelter and Adopt-a-Pet Center recently hosted its Fourth Annual Holiday Pet Toy Drive, sponsored by the shelter’s volunteer group, Live.Love.Bark, which was successful in collecting more than 700 gallons of toys for dogs and cats. This year’s donations again surpassed the amount collected in previous years. Families across Long Island and even out of state made the trip to donate at the Shelter’s annual fundraiser which was held on Saturday, December 12, to place treats and toys in the 100+ holiday stockings that hung on each animal’s cage.

In addition to toys and treats, nearly 1000 pounds of pet food, an abundance of dog bone boxes, and an impressive amount of laundry detergent, dish soap, hand sanitizer, towels, blankets, beds and sheets were also donated this holiday season. Various supporters and local companies also co-sponsored the event while others donated items or baskets to raffle at Toy Drive, while Live.Love.Bark sold merchandise including both human and pet clothing and 2016 calendars that brought in more than $2000.00, which will be used towards the well-being and care of the 100+ adoptable animals that currently reside at the shelter.

The Annual Holiday Toy Drive was started in 2012, with the donation of holiday stockings for each animal at the shelter. Now sponsored by Live.Love.Bark, the event has tripled in size, collecting much more than just toy donations. In its first year, the Toy Drive saw approximately 50 people visit the shelter to support the effort, whereas this year, over 300 supporters walked the halls, stuffing the stockings and visiting with the animals.

To view photographs from this event, taken by Live.Love.Bark volunteer Leon Gurinsky, please visit Live.Love.Bark’s Facebook page. To donate items, please drop off donations at the shelter between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm, Monday through Saturday, at 210 South Denver Ave. in Bay Shore. To view photos of the adoptable animals waiting for forever homes, visit the shelter’s Facebook page.
